Beer league reality: It's just 1 or 2 people
Why does one beer league hockey team feel like a group of friends while another team finishes the game and everyone immediately disappears? A lot of the time, the difference is just one or two players. In this video, we talk about how to become the glue guy on your beer league hockey team—the person who helps turn a group of players into an actual team. The best part? You don't need to be the loudest guy in the locker room, or the best player on the ice. We'll cover simple things you can do to build a better beer league culture: organizing postgame drinks or food, getting teammates to stick around, including the non-drinkers, bringing some personality to the locker room, encouraging teammates, knowing how to chirp without being a jerk, and stepping in when somebody gets a little too fired up. Most importantly, being a good teammate means understanding that everyone has a life outside the rink. Some guys can hang out every week, others have kids, early mornings, or stressful jobs. A good glue guy creates opportunities without making anyone feel excluded.
